KDCF Guide – Basic Training Course

This information was gathered and published by MESYM from this source.

Kota Damansara Community Forest (KDCF) Society will be organising its first ever KDCF Guide Training Course in April. The basic idea for the course is to develop a pool of volunteer guides that we can call upon to lead visitors into KDCF during events as well as on normal days. It is also an opportunity for anyone who’s interested to become a KDCF Guide to learn more about the biodiversity of KDCF as well as to develop some related skillsets.
No background in guiding or great knowledge of botany or insects, or anything like that is required. Through a combination of short lectures, field work and group exercises, the course will cover all of the basics needed and we will facilitate participants to form their own personal interpretative stories for the KDCF trails. We are putting together a great group of guest lecturers for the course, who will cover the following topics:
– Basics concepts in forest ecology
– History of forest management in Selangor and KDCF
– Co-managing of KDCF
– Plants of KDCF
– Birds of KDCF
– Frogs and reptiles of KDCF
– Basics of nature guiding
– Ethnobotany and indigenous knowledge
– Jungle rescue and first aid
The course will span 1.5 days, spread over two consecutive Saturdays in April, i.e. 5th and 12th (half day). The registration form is attached here. So if you’re keen, do fill it up and return to me as soon as possible, as places are limited.
Best regards,
Dylan Ong
Hon. Secretary, KDCF Society
