MESYM Crossover Documentary Series #4: Inequality for All

The MESYM Crossover Documentary Series is held every last Sunday of each month @ Merdekarya. Everyone is invited to come watch the documentary, participate in the discussion, and meet like-minded people. Admission is free, just buy a drink!

For our fourth event, the crossover topic is Wealth distribution and inequality. We will screen Inequality for All, a film considered the “Inconvenient Truth” film for the economy. This documentary  follows former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich as he looks to raise awareness of the US’ widening economic gap.

*Update: We have invited activist-filmmaker Boon Kia Meng to be a discussant to this movie . His film ‘M-C-M’: Utopia Milik Siapa?’ was a winner at the Freedom Film Festival 2012, documenting the issue of escalating house prices and debt in Malaysia.*

About Inequality for All

A passionate argument on behalf of the middle class, this film features Robert Reich-professor, best-selling author, and Clinton cabinet member-as he demonstrates how the widening income gap has a devastating impact on the American economy. The film is an intimate portrait of a man who’s overcome a great deal of personal adversity and whose lifelong goal remains protecting those who are unable to protect themselves. Through his singular perspective, Reich explains how the massive consolidation of wealth by a precious few threatens the viability of the American workforce and the foundation of democracy itself. In this “Inconvenient Truth” for the economy, Reich uses humor and a wide array of facts to explain how the issue of economic inequality affects each and every one of us.

About MESYM Crossover Documentary Series

Why “Crossover”? Economics, politics, capitalism, democracy, mass media, etc… all these topics (and many more) are directly or indirectly linked with the natural world that we live in. However, these interconnections are not always apparent. With the Crossover Series we show a documentary of a chosen topic in every event, and discuss its connection with environmental issues. Click here for more info in our Crossover Documentary Series.
