MESYM Documentary Night #5: Green The Film + PEKA Malaysia’s video on Rainforest Destruction

MESYM’s Documentary Night is held every 2nd Tuesday of each month. Everyone is invited to come hang out, watch a documentary, meet like-minded friends and take part in the discussion. Admission is free!

In conjunction with World Orangutan Day on August 19th, we are screening Green The Film, a documentary about an orangutan named Green who lost her habitat due to deforestation.

To further the discussion, we are delighted to welcome PEKA Malaysia to show their short video on rainforest destruction, taken from a helicopter ride from Genting Sempah to Raub, Pahang. PEKA Malaysia’s President, Puan Sri Shariffa Sabrina Syed Akil, Sec General Puan Bazlinda Bahrin, and Sara Dalina will be present to lead the discussion and offer more insights.

*UPDATE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, PEKA Malaysia will now be represented by PEKA exco member Mr. Kevin Lawrence, who is also a lecturer at the Center for American Education in Biodiversity & Environmental Science,  International College,  Subang.*

About Green The Film

[jwplayer mediaid=”13923″]

Her name is GREEN, she is alone in a world that doesn’t belong to her. She is a female orangutan, victim of deforestation and resource exploitation. This film is an emotional journey with GREEN’s final days. With no narration, it is a visual ride presenting the devastating impacts of logging and land clearing for palm oil plantations, the choking haze created by rainforest fires and the tragic end of rainforest biodiversity. We watch the effects of consumerism and are faced with our personal accountability in the loss of the world’s rainforest treasures.
