Check out Raptor Watch Official blog for the fun we have been celebrating for this past 14 years!

Entrance is free!! So join us in our 15th year of celebrating the great raptor migration!

Raptor Watch, organised by the Malaysian Nature Society, is a festival to celebrate the return of the migratory birds of prey or better known as raptors on their journey back to their breeding grounds in the northern hemisphere. RW is a public event meant to raise awareness on the conservation of raptors and their habitats

Five main species of migratory raptors will fly over from the Straits of Malacca, the Indonesian islands and rest, if necessary, at Tanjung Tuan before continuing their 12,000km journey back to their northern breeding grounds. The most numerous and regularly sighted species are:

– Oriental Honey-Buzzard, (Pernis ptilorhynchus)
– Black Baza (Aviceda leuphotes)
– Japanese Sparrowhawk (Accipter gularis)
– Chinese Goshawk (Accipiter solensis)
– Grey-faced Buzzard (Butastur indicus)

RW also serves as a platform to create awareness on the need to protect Tanjung Tuan, as a coastal rainforest (and its adjacent mangrove areas) as a valuable natural resource.

Through RW, MNS hopes to protect this incredible biodiversity and ensuring the continuity of the annual arrival of these mighty creatures. Seeing that climate change is growing into a formidable issue of late, RW aims to educate the public on the effects of climate change on raptor migration and the habitats that host them as well.

Every year, MNS engages with government agencies, local hotel operators, schools as well as corporates to be a part of this very significant event.
