A Scientific Forage into the North Selangor Peat Swamp Forest

Call for Participation: Selangor Scientific and Biodiversity Peatland Expedition 2013

Hi all,

Here’s a great opportunity to volunteer in the wild! The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) – one of the MYCAT partners – will be organising a scientific forage into the North Selangor Peat Swamp Forest (NSPSF) and they need a big team (10 volunteers/week) to help out! Details are as below:

Expedition period: 15 – 19 May 2013; 20 – 24 May 2013; 24 – 30 June 2013; 1 – 6 July 2013
No. of volunteers: 40
Venue: The North Selangor Peat Swamp Forest

This expedition aims to bring together Malaysia’s scientists, naturalists and other interest groups to explore and conduct field research in the NSPSF, in order to develop a better understanding of the current state of biodiversity in this critical habitat. The findings will be used to guide the formulation of the NSPSF Integrated Management Plan and the State Action Plan for Peatlands. It will also increase public awareness of the unique beauty and global importance of the NSPSF, as well as the challenges faced in conserving this critical ecosystem. You can learn more about this expedition here.

All are welcome to join this expedition (you are also encouraged to sign-up as an MNS member).

If you would like to join this expedition please fill in the volunteer registration form (also available below) and send it to hod.conservation@mns.org.my by 10th May 2013.

For more information, contact the Secretariat of NSPSF Expedition (Balu Perumal or Sonny Wong) at 03-22879422 or email hod.conservation@mns.org.my.
