Wetlands International, Malaysia is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and wise use of wetlands. We are a science-based organisation and our leading activities include providing technical input on the management, restoration and sustainable use of wetlands to benefit biodiversity and human well being.  We are a source of “best-informed” opinion on key issues affecting wetlands and priority actions for their conservation and wise use, drawing on scientific analyses and our own experience in global, regional and national conservation and natural resource management programmes.  In doing this work, we are responsive to the needs expressed by governments, industry sectors, local communities and other stakeholders.

Wetlands International Malaysia has a long tradition of supporting policies and practices for the wise use of wetlands.

Our mission

“To sustain and restore wetlands, their resources and biodiversity”

Our work

  • We carry out activities to conserve and restore wetlands and wetland species, like the highly endangered peat swamp fishes. We conduct regular site monitoring programmes, raise awareness among the people living around these wetlands about their values and enable stakeholders and governments to conserve and manage the wetlands.
  • We help communities conserve and restore wetlands for the services they provide, such as drinking water, fish, reeds for building materials, etc. We also advise local governments and organisations on the sustainable and wise use of wetlands.
  • We collect data and information to rationalise and quantify the role of wetlands in water management as wetlands play a role in water purification and in mitigating floods and droughts. We advise governments on how to integrate wetland management into water resource management programmes at the catchment (or basin) scale.

To support our work at the national and regional level, Wetlands International Malaysia is seeking a qualified Malaysian with passion and commitment to nature conservation to join our team.
