The Challenge

This event is set to be one of the biggest fundraisers for orangutans ever undertaken! This is your chance to become part of an event that will truly help to make a difference for this magnificant species. The Trans Borneo Challenge aims to inform the world about the plight of the orangutans, as a flagship species for many other endangered creatures, as well as the continued destruction of their rainforest habitat.

How does it work?
10 countries are represented by 2 people from each country (20 trekkers in total). The challenge will start in West Borneo (Kalimantan) and finish in East Borneo (Kalimantan).

When is it on?
The expedition begins on 16th August 2103 and 24 days later finishes on to 8th September 2013.

How are funds raised?
Each participant has their own minimum personal fundraising target of $2,000AUD, as part of their tour commitment, totalling a minimum of $40,000AUD even before we leave. The remainder of the total fundraising target is to be met through corporate sponsorship, general donations and supporters. If 100,000 people across the globe donate $1 each through the Trans Borneo Challenge Fundraising website, we will reach our goal of $200,000AUD in no time! People will also be able to log on and sponsor their favourite trekker and follow the event through facebook ad twitter. Donations will be accepted in all currencies & credit cards & Paypal, through the TBC fundraising website. Simply click on one of the banners on this page.

We believe we have the means to raise over $200,000AUD as a united effort by all countries, which will signicantly help conservation efforts across Indonesia.

Where does the money raised go?
100% of monies raised will go towards on the ground conservation projects through The Orangutan Project. (TOP). For more information on the full scope of the valuable conservation projects supported see TOP’s Latest Annual Report.

‘TOP strives to get the best conservation and welfare results for orangutans by effectively using every dollar raised to support genuine on the ground conservation work through a wide range of partners. Working in a non-partisan way provides the orangutans their best chance. The Trans Borneo Challenge is a perfect display of both the challenge to save orangutans and the spirit of mutual cooperation that is needed to meet that challenge’, says Leif Cocks, TOP Founder and President.

How much will it cost?
The expedtion cost  is $4,200 per person. Plus a fundraising component of $2,000AUD (minimum) per person as part of the tour package. More details of inclusions and exclusions can be found under the Itinerary section and regustrations are also still welcome.
