Million thanks a Thai Volunteer, Suppalak KAEWkwan who had just finished her one month volunteering in BSBCC.

Thanks for helping out the smallest bear species in the world, the Sun Bear! Thank you for sharing your vet medicine’s knowledge and experience in taking care of the animal. Last but not least, thanks for giving a chance in language exchange in between Thai and Malay.

All the best in your writing for your PhD research study and please come back anytime you want for visiting the bears and us! Safe flight to Hokkaido and big bear hugs!

ขอบคุณค่ะ [khob khun kha]

School Visit – SK Sungai Tiram, Sandakan
Post

A school group from SK Sungai Tiram, Sandakan visited our Centre today! During their visit, we assigned the students to answer a set of questions about sun bears in the Sun Bear Explorer Book and on the same time they enjoyed to watch the sun bears activities in the forest enclosure. Through this activity, they were able to learn and understand better about sun bears! Thank you for visiting our Centre!

Bear Story – A Castle of Wood. A Playground for Bears

Bear Story – A Castle of Wood. A Playground for Bears
Post

Noah and Nano arrived at our Centre in October 2016 and November 2016 respectively. Both of them were rescued by the Sabah Wildlife Department and sent to BSBCC for rehabilitation.

Read the story about how Noah and Nano take their courage to step into the forest enclosure, a new journey for them after being rescued.

Click the link below to read their story:

Noah is braver than Nano to explore the new environment. Instead of stepping out to the forest enclosure, he rather stays in the bear house. Hopefully one day he will be more courageous to go out.

Noah is now enjoying his life exploring in the forest.

Our Newest Arrival – Soo (Rescue Bear – 56)

Our Newest Arrival – Soo (Rescue Bear – 56)
Post

At 7.10 pm yesterday (8th September 2017), a two years and four month old, sub adult female bear who had been kept as a pet by a family in Tambunan village, located in the interior Division of Sabah, was rescued by Sabah Wildlife Department and transferred to BSBCC. Orphaned sun bear Soo (Rescued Bear No.56) was purchased from Sook Keningau market and kept as a pet for almost two years. She was fed with rice, milk and cucumber.

Huge thanks to Sabah Wildlife Department for rescuing Soo. She has now settled into her new home with close monitoring at BSBCC quarantine. We will ensure she has a safe and secure home at BSBCC. Sun bear population is at the risk of extinction in the wild. Please do NOT keep or support having sun bears as pets!

Unloading Soo from the truck and she was placed into quarantine new home.
