ASM’s 25th IdeaXchange will discuss an interesting topic on stingless bees. These captivating and useful insects are the subject of a new wave of interest in bee keeping. Keeping native stingless bees is a hot topic in Malaysia for commercial environmental and recreational reasons. They are great pollinators and the honey and propolis they produced are believed to have medicinal benefits. This IdeaXchange will provide an excellent opportunity to learn all about the stingless bees’ wonderful, weird and fascinating lives.

We are very fortunate to have two experts in this field to share experiences from different parts of the world namely Australia and Brazil. Their biodata and synopsis of presentation are attached for reference:

ASM Fellows’ Lecture: The fruit fly – orchid association: sex pheromones, allomones and synomones in pollination and biodiversity

You are cordially invited to ASM Fellows’ Lecture

“THE FRUIT FLY – ORCHID ASSOCIATION:

SEX PHEROMONES, ALLOMONES AND SYNOMONES IN POLLINATION AND BIODIVERSITY”

by Dr Tan Keng Hong FASc

Fruit flies are generally regarded as serious fruit pests world wide. They can cause considerable loss in yield and negatively affect fruit export channels, hence pose a damaging threat on a nation’s economy. However they are at same time important pollinators for some wild orchids, hence paradoxically, they are both foes and friends.

Discover more on the close association between fruit fly and wild orchid by joining this lecture!!
