Reverse Travel or Flip Travel

We are all familiar with various forms of tours and travels. In fact, we even differentiate conventional tour packages designed for tourists / travelers / sojourners. But have you ever done any “reverse traveling”?

In its simplest terms, “reverse travel” is, of course, the reverse of travel: instead of travelling to meet other people (understanding their culture, customs, languages, religions foods etc.), have these people or travelers come to meet you face-to-face. Reverse travels thus allow you to savor the many flavors of travelling without having to incur expenses and times for travelling, all in the comfort of your own home.

How can you do “reverse travel”? Well, it is as simple as opening up your home to travelers / backpackers / nomads / sabbaticals etc. This can be done in the following ways or formats:

  • Home-stay program (e.g. AirBnB)
  • Free Bed or Couch (e.g. Couchsurfing)
  • Free Tour Guide (e.g. Free Walking Tour)
  • Home Exchange (e.g. HomeExchange)
  • House Sitters / Caretakers (e.g. House Sit World)
  • Warm Showers for Cyclists (e.g. Warm Showers)
  • Meal Sharing (e.g. Meal Sharing)

Even better, come and join a Meetup gathering on 14th Decemer 2013 at SOHOland, during which a bonus presentation on “Reverse travel” will be given. You might even win a time-slot for an actual experiential reverse travel!
