EARTH DAY 2017 @ THE MNS URBAN COMMUNITY FOREST
Date: Saturday, 22nd April 2017
Time: 9.00 a.m. – 11.00 a.m.
Venue: Urban Community Forest, MNS Headquarters, JKR 641, Jalan Kelantan, Bukit Persekutuan 50480 Kuala Lumpur
Come join volunteers from MNS Selangor Branch’s Flora Group and Green Living SIG at our Urban Community Forest (UCF) this Earth Day!
We will be clearing litter from the UCF Heritage Trail, the stream and the accessible parts of Federal Hill surrounding the MNS UCF, replanting and transplanting indigenous trees at the nursery and organising games and contests for volunteers.
Please bring:
1. Reusable / washable gardening gloves.
2. Litter-picking tools, if you have one.
3. A spade or trowel if you have one.
4. Sunblock.
5. Drinking water.
6. Mosquito repellent.
7. Any plant seeds / clippings to share with other volunteers or to plant in our UCF edible garden / nursery.
8. Preloved clothes, toys, bags and shoes in good condition for Green Living’s ongoing community projects.
9. Recyclables (including electronic waste and used batteries) for recycling.
10. Refreshments for yourself or to share with other volunteers.
Green Living will provide:
1. Rubbish bags and a few litter-picking tools.
2. Spades and gardening tools, but may not be enough for all participants.
3. Cotton/fabric gardening gloves.
4. Drinking water to refill your bottles with.
5. Light refreshments for volunteers.
6. Prizes, equipment and clues for an Earth Day Hunt to take place in the forest trails.
Please carpool or take public transport to the venue. Latecomers, newcomers, non-MNS members, school groups and clubs are all welcome. Please email wongeelynn@yahoo.com for more information.

Day Trip to Gunung Nuang Recreation Forest, Hulu Langat

DAY TRIP OPEN TO ALL MNS MEMBERS
Come and join Selangor Branch Bird Group for a morning of bird watching at Gunung Nuang Recreational Forest, within the Hulu Langat Forest Reserve. Gunung Nuang, with an altitude of 1493 m, is the highest peak in Selangor and popular among hikers. But we will leave that to the climbers and bird along forest trail on flat terrain, suitable for birders of all ages, including kids.
In front of the mosque at Pekan Batu 14 (mile 14th) Hulu Langat at 7 am. From here we will convoy to the site which is another 16 km away.
From Cheras-Kajang Expressway, after passing Batu 9 Toll Plaza, take the 1st left turning. Follow this road straight till you reach a traffic lights with a Police Station on the right, take a left turn into Jalan Hulu Langat. Go straight along this long kampong road and look out for the mosque on the left.
Bring along binoculars, drinking water, light snacks, mosquito repellant & umbrella/poncho. Wear dull colored clothes & comfortable shoes.
The event shall end at noon.

This year we have invited Prof Ille C. Gebeshuber who will be giving an interesting talk “What is a physicist doing in the jungle? Biomimetics of the rainforest” which she delivered in TEDxKL 2012.
All MNS Selangor Branch members are encouraged to attend the AGM following the talk. Please ensure your membership is current or renew them with Membership at MNS HQ or online in MNS website. A Buffet lunch will be served at 12.30 pm. This will be followed by Prof Dr. Ille’s Talk. AGM starts at 2.30 pm. There will be afternoon tea.
