The growing popularity of urban gardening and urban farming is a testament that the future of food lies in how we can best appropriate whatever space available for the purpose of feeding people. In light of rising food prices and a booming global population, food growing should also be returned to the hands of the public, where people take more responsibility in meeting their own food demands.

#BetterCities talk series #6 will look at the limitations and potentialities of expanding urban gardening in Kuala Lumpur. Prior to the panel discussion, there will be an activity inspired by ‘The Public Kitchen’ (http://http://www.stiftungfreizeit.com/2012/11/la-cucina-pubblica.html) where the public will be invited to create a dish out of select ingredients as a means to generate awareness about local and climate friendly foods.

  • Ms. Shao-Lyn Low of Eats, Shoots and Roots
  • Ms. Ili Farhana Norhayat of Gang Chaos
  • Ms. Nova Ceceliana Nelson of Cultivate Central
