E-waste, Beverage Carton and Unused Medication Collection Day

E-waste, Beverage Carton and Unused Medication Collection Day
Past Event
28 Oct - 30 Oct
11:00 - 17:00
No location

Hello everyone,

Ever wonder what to do with:

Spoiled handphone, radio, microwave oven and other electronic waste (E-waste)?
Piled-up old medicine in refrigerator?
Empty drink packs/beverage cartons?

Here’s your solution!

Environmental Science and Management Club (SPAS Club), University of Malaya is organizing E-waste, Beverage Carton and Unused Medicine Collection Day. The main objective of this initiative is to provide sustainable disposal solution for this kind of waste.

When?

28 – 30 October 2014

Where?

University of Malaya Main Library

Time?

11 am – 5pm

Why you should recycle these wastes?

E-waste consists of metal components that can be extracted and recycled. In addition, some of the metal components can be dangerous upon mixed with other domestic waste that is wet.

Beverage carton is 75% paper, 20% plastic, 5% aluminium and 100% recyclable. The plastic and aluminium layers can be extracted and recycled into roofing tile, which will be used to make roof for Orang Asli homes!

Unused medicine should not be disposed into normal bin but should be returned to hospital for proper management. Drug, upon mixed with other types of waste will turned into toxic and harm the environment.

See attached poster for more information. Share it with your friends!

Be part of the solution for environmental problems! Take action now!

Tree-Cycle
Post

Adrenaline had started pumping in the morning. Why? Because its CYCLING + TREE PLANTING day!

After some dreadful last minute revision for our final examination papers, this event was certainly the best retreat for me and my coursemate, Samantha.

It was a real exciting 14 km ride! We couldn’t believe that we did it! I was lucky to have this experience thanks to Samantha’s  landcruiser that managed to transport our two mountain bikes!

Clad with professional skin tight cycling jersey and helmet, people from all walks of life, be it young or old, assembled at the starting point with various model of bicycle: foldable, mountain bike, BMX bike, racing bike, you name it!

Luckily Sam snapped lots of photos, which makes story telling easier.

So here we roll!

Saturday morning with CYCLING enthusiast!

Selfie before we embarked!

We both were the ugly duckling or should I say the outstanding one: Jeans her; helmet-less and ubber shoe me; while everyone else dressed professionally.

Woot! Its me! Here's a story. As I was cycling using gear 7,- a knowledge I just learned from Sam that high gear is recommended for flat road - a kind cyclist approached to tell me about my slightly flatten back tire. Ooops, no wonder it took me so much effort to pedal.

And sampai sudah at the finishing line! Parked our bike in the most romantic way and then we bustled to the canopy for food!

Sampai sudah at the finishing line! Parked our bike in the most romantic way and then we bustled to the canopy for food! Hopefully throughout that 14 km ride, we managed to spread the message to people that IT IS OKAY TO CYCLE ON MAI ROADS AND YOU SHOULD JOIN US TOO! Hehehe!

After we recharged, real business was on. Planting the BIG guy. Woot!
